Millwall have had a good start to the season, but there are still additions they can make before the window closes.
Millwall have made a decent start to the 2025-26 Championship season, but there are still further reinforcements that they could bring in before next week's transfer deadline.
With two wins from the three second tier games they've played so far, it's been an encouraging start to the new season for the Lions.
The South Bermondsey outfit finished in eighth place in the Championship last season - the third time in the last four seasons that they've been knocking on the door of a place in the play-offs without making that final step.
Changes have already come to their playing personnel this summer and it seems likely that one high-profile departure will come over the next seven days.
But there are also additions that they could make ahead of the window's closure, so here are two players that they could bring in to further strengthen ahead of a season that could well be very competitive.
It now seems almost certain that Japhet Tanganga will be leaving Millwall before the end of the transfer window. He was left out of their team for their 1-0 win at Sheffield United on Saturday, with Bramall Lane being his most likely destination.
Tanganga's absence will leave a gaping hole at the heart of Millwall's central defence, even with Tristan Crama likely moving over permanently from his right-back role, but, having signed Tanganga on loan from Tottenham in the first place before his permanent move, there is another possible option from the north London club who could fit the bill as a replacement.
Luka Vuskovic completed his transfer from Hajduk Split to Spurs in the summer, but it's been a long time coming. Spurs first agreed terms with the Croatian club for him in 2023, but the young centre-back wasn't allowed to go to England until he was 18, so he spent the two intervening seasons in Croatia, loaned out to the Polish club Radomiak Radom and the Belgian club Westerlo in the meantime.
Comparing the two players hints at the role that Vuskovic could play for the Lions. He's a slightly more attack-minded player than Tanganga - he scored seven goals from centre-back for Westerlo last season - but his passing statistics were also better and he's taller, so perhaps stronger in the air.
With Spurs having just committed Cristian Romero to a long-term contract and Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso, Ben Davies and the currently injured Radu Dragusin ahead of him in the pecking order, a year in the Championship could do this young player the world of good.
Spurs are reported to be close to agreeing a loan deal with HSV, but there could still be time for Millwall to step in and make an offer to keep the 18-year-old in London for the year.
An issue with goalscoring was Millwall's biggest issue last season. The 47 goals they scored in their 46 matches wasn't just the lowest tally in the top half of the Championship; only three teams in the entire division - Stoke, Hull and Luton - scored fewer than them.
And this has been an ongoing issue dating back to when they were last promoted from League One, in 2017. In the eight seasons since then, Millwall haven't yet scored more than 60 goals in a season. Last season, despite only finishing two points short of a play-off place, they only had one player - Mihailo Ivanovic - reach double-figures.
Bringing in a proven goal-scorer at this point in the transfer window might be a tall order, but a little more flair out wide or in the number 10 role might not be out of the question, and Jeremy Sarmiento of Brighton & Hove Albion could be an answer.
The most striking thing about Sarmiento's career so far is how much he's experienced by the age of 23. Not only has the winger already been capped 24 times by the Ecuador national team, but he's made 15 Premier League appearances and won promotion from the Championship in the last two seasons as a result of loan spells with Ipswich Town and Burnley.
Femi Azeez started on the left in a 4-2-3-1 against Norwich and Middlesbrough, but Neil played Luke Cundle - who's normally a central midfielder - there in a 4-4-2 against Sheffield United, with Azeez out injured and the manager having no clear idea of when he'll be returning.
An extra attacking option on the left wing could bring serious benefits for Millwall this season, helping them to build on the decent start they've already had, and Sarmiento - whilst ambitious - could be a realistic coup.
