2 Newcastle United players ruled out of Burnley match plus 3 doubtful – Official update | OneFootball

Eddie Howe has been speaking to the media on Friday morning.

The Newcastle United Head Coach talking to journalists ahead of the game against Burnley, a Sunday afternoon game with a 4pm kick-off.

Eddie Howe giving an update on the fitness, injury and availability situation regarding various Newcastle United players.

Both Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Willock definitely miss this Burnley match, Eddie Howe having already made clear that the injured pair are now only focused on getting back to full fitness in time for pre-season preparations which will begin in only around another six weeks time, at the most.

As well as those two definite absentees, the head coach detailing another three Newcastle United players who are doubts for this game at Turf Moor.

“Fabian (Schar), we haven’t seen (in training this week).

“We are following concussion protocols.

“I believe he may be doing something outside today, but as I said, we are following the protocols closely.

“That will be a late decision on Fabian.”

Ryan Fraser:

“Ryan Fraser might be out of this game.

“He came on (against Arsenal) and had a slight awareness in his hamstring.

“I don’t think there is a massive reinjury…but there is an awareness in his hamstring again.”

Chris Wood:

“We are going to try (him) today in training and see how he (Chris Wood) is.

“As we said at the time, I don’t think it is a serious injury, so fingers crossed that he comes through training today.”

I think it would be clearly a massive surprise to see either Ryan Fraser or Fabian Schar start on Sunday, or even be on the bench. There are clearly doubts surrounding them and this is not a must win final game from a Newcastle perspective.

As for Chris Wood, he missed Arsenal with a hip problem.

Similarly, I find it very difficult to see Wood starting against Burnley, as no need to take any risks.

Plus the Kiwi has an absolutely huge match in just over three weeks time, a one-off against Costa Rica on 14 June 2022 to decide which of the pair goes to the Qatar World Cup finals. A friendly against Peru preceding that, with that game on 5 June 2022.
