The Arsenal Premier League squad was posted on the official league site on Tuesday. We already saw the full Europa League squad earlier this week, but now we have the PL list too to complete the players available for the next few months of football.

In total, you’re allowed 25 players on the main squad list for over-21s. Of these, eight have to be homegrown, meaning they’ve been registered with an FA club for a continuous period of three seasons before the end of the season they turn 21.

If you have fewer than eight, you just lose that spot in your squad. Arsenal only have five, highlighted in the squad below, so they only get 22 players in the main squad.

Unfortunately, Arsenal also have 19 non-homegrown players over the age of 21, and only 17 non-homegrown spots for them. As a result, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Mesut Özil will both miss out, just like they do in Europe.

This means neither player can feature in a matchday Premier League squad. It also prevents them from playing in the League Cup, which takes its squad registrations from the same source. So with the Europa League too, that’s all games from now until January.

Here’s the Arsenal Premier League squad main list:

Goalkeepers: Leno, Macey*, Runarsson

Defenders: Cedric, Bellerin*, Chambers*, Gabriel, Holding*, Kolasinac, Mari, Luiz, Mustafi, Tierney

Midfielders: Ceballos, Elneny, Maitland-Niles*, Partey, Xhaka

Forwards: Aubameyang, Willian, Lacazette, Pepe

On top of that, you get an unlimited u21 list. The only restriction to make the list is that you have to be born on or after 1st January 1999. That’s the cut-off date.

As there’s no number limit to the players you can have on the u21 list, Arsenal will name all their loan players anyway. That ensures they’re available if recalled.

Plus, in certain cases, it will help them achieve homegrown status. Arsenal named William Saliba in their squad last year, so by the end of the season in which he turns 21 he will have been registered for three seasons.

This is another benefit to some of the summer signings Arsenal have been making, like Joel Ideho, Nikolaj Duus Moller and Salah Oulad M’Hand. They’re all moving to the club in time to complete three full seasons before the age of 21.

Of course, we don’t know which of these players will go on to make it big in the future. But it’s good to sign them up now and get that homegrown status than wait a year and miss out on it.

You never know how the rules might change in the future and force Arsenal to pick even more homegrown players than they are now.
