Sitting third in the League One standings, four points from second and seven points from Plymouth Argyle at the third tier summit, it is set to be a competitive end to this campaign at Ipswich Town.

Kieran McKenna’s side will welcome Sheffield Wednesday to their Suffolk home a week on Saturday, and whilst there is still a large chunk of the campaign to play, it could prove to be a vitally important contest.

The Tractor Boys ended a run of four games without a league win last time out, with braces from Freddie Ladapo and Conor Chaplin securing a 4-0 victory over Morecambe.

In what proved to be a rather successful month of recruitment at Portman Road, Harry Clarke, Nathan Broadhead and Massimo Luongo touched down in Suffolk.

Whilst we wait and see if the Tractor Boys can secure a route back into the Championship during what remains of this season, here, we take a look at two Ipswich players who may be disappointed not to have secured a move away during January.

Kyle Edwards

Kyle Edwards may have featured 28 times this season for Ipswich but he has only managed to amass 1,000 minutes in all competitions, which goes down to just over 500 minutes when considering League One football.

A player with great ability, he has felt the full effect of having a very competitive squad surrounding him this season and has been restricted to just three starts in the league.

Proving to make an impact when he has been involved, he has managed eight goal involvements, averaging a goal involvement every 125 minutes.

Despite seeing limited minutes this season, Championship club Hull City made a late attempt in the latest transfer window to sign the 24-year-old.

According to the Sky Sports Transfer Centre (11:40), the Tractor Boys blocked a move for Edwards to join Liam Rosenior’s project at the MKM Stadium.

Sone Aluko

Ipswich have some very talented options going forward and that can be displayed by the fact that Sone Aluko has been limited to less than 400 minutes of league action this time around.

A smooth operator, who possesses excellent technical ability and a great understanding of the game, there would be scope for the 33-year-old to play regular football elsewhere in League One.

With Clarke arriving, meaning Wes Burns could be deployed further up the pitch and Broadhead also joining, he could be further down the pecking order than at the start of the month.

However, he is still a valued part of this Ipswich team and could grow in importance during the latter stages of the campaign.
