With the season now over, there is only one major thing for Millwall to focus their attention on.

The summer transfer window is a great opportunity for the Lions to improve their squad ahead of a renewed bid to compete for a promotion place in the Championship.

Gary Rowett’s side finished only six points behind the play-off places and still had a chance at a top six finish going into the final day of the regular campaign.

That shows how close the team is to being competitive enough to fight for a Premier League place.

But going into the transfer window, there is so much that could yet happen both in and out of the club.

Here are the scenarios that might play out at The Den early in the summer…

In: Benik Afobe

The former Arsenal striker has spent the campaign on loan from Stoke City, where he bagged 13 goals in the Championship.

But with the forward’s time at Stoke set to conclude this summer, the 29-year old has hinted he would be open to remaining with the Lions for next season.

Afobe will be available as a free agent this summer and there is every chance that Rowett looks to keep him at the club following his successful stint on loan over the last 12 months.

In: Harry Toffolo

The Huddersfield Town player has been linked with a move to London this summer, with Millwall looking to replace the outgoing Daniel Ballard.

The defender has been on loan from Arsenal and will likely return to his parent club this summer.

Quiz: Can you name which club Millwall sold these 23 players to from the last decade?

Jason McCarthy?

Sunderland Sheffield Wednesday MK Dons Wycombe

That has left Rowett’s side with a gap in the defence, which Toffolo has been shortlisted as a potential solution by the club’s recruitment team.

Millwall will face stiff competition from the likes of Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers to secure this signature, should the 26-year old depart the Terriers this transfer window.

Out: Jed Wallace

The winger is out of contract this summer and has been linked with a move away from the London club.

West Brom are reportedly interested in bringing the 27-year old to the club this summer as Steve Bruce looks to build a promotion challenger.

Wallace played 38 times for Millwall this season and has been a key player in the side in recent years.

His six goals and 12 assists in the league this season would be difficult to replace and certainly be a blow to the team’s own promotion challenge.
