We have entered a new year now and the immediate focus will be on the January transfer window and hopefully getting the required bodies through the door to get Charlton moving up the League One table.

In a tough market, though, it will be difficult to address every area of Holden’s squad.

As a result of that, it might well be that the 43-year-old is leaning on a couple of youngsters.

We take a look at TWO here that could have a big 2023:

Richard Chin

Chin has been picking up a steady amount of appearances in the early part of the 2022/23 campaign, featuring 15 times in all competitions.

The versatile 20-year-old is certainly someone to keep an eye on in 2023, too, with Charlton’s lack of left-back depth giving him a shot on that side of defence.

A new arrival might knock him down the pecking order a touch, although it’s fair to assume that could open the door for a loan away from the Valley.

Whichever way you look at it, 2023 is a chance for Chin to really hit the gas with his career, whether that’s with Charlton or out on loan, with the view of returning to play a key role under Holden.

Has former Charlton man Chris Gunter ever played for a Yorkshire based team?

Yes No

Aaron Henry

Before we get going with this one, we realise it might be that 2023 is a big year for Henry initially away from Charlton.

The 19-year-old has managed nine appearances in the first-half of 2022/23, scoring twice and looking every bit the talent Charlton think he is.

It might be that he’s sent out on loan in January to further his development at senior level, but you can’t deny that this year is huge for the midfielder and his career.

Fingers crossed he can have a positive calendar year.
