With the summer transfer window just around the corner, clubs up and down the country would have started looking at players they wish to add to their squads ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Coventry City don't know what league they'll be in next season yet, but there's no doubt that Mark Robins and his coaching team will have their eyes on certain players as they look to bolster their squad.

The Sky Blues would be an attractive club to join thanks to their rise through the divisions in recent seasons, and you only have to look at players like Viktor Gyokeres to see the role Coventry had in developing him into one of European football's hottest properties.

The club could be tempted to look at the free agent market this summer, with there inevitably being quality players available on the market, saving the club some money as they don't have to pay a transfer fee.

With that in mind, here are 2 Championship free agents that Coventry City should sign this summer.

Chris Willock

QPR man Chris Willock is out of contract at Loftus Road this summer and could be a perfect, realistic addition to Coventry's ranks.

Coventry don't have an out-and-out left-sided attacker in their squad and have often used left-back Jay Dasilva at left-midfield this season, so the signing of Willock could reinforce that area of the squad.

The 26-year-old winger has years of Championship experience and has been a regular starter for Martí Cifuentes' side this season.

Willock would relish the opportunity to play for a team competing for promotion instead of playing for a QPR side battling to remain in the Championship, like the Hoops have been over the past couple of seasons.

Whilst Willock may not be a regular starter if he joined the Sky Blues, he would be a good option from the bench and give the club some more strength in depth thanks to his versatility, which means he can play pretty much anywhere in attack.

It appears that he's got no future at Loftus Road, with the club appearing keen to cash in on the player in January instead of losing him for free in the summer, according to Alan Nixon.

However, unless a new contract is signed shortly, Willock will become a free agent in the summer and Mark Robins should look to sign the ex-Arsenal man.

Jamie Shackleton

Leeds right-back Jamie Shackleton is out of contract at Elland Road in the summer, and despite Daniel Farke recently praising the 24-year-old, he is yet to sign a new deal with the club.

Coventry only have one recognised right-back in their squad in Milan van Ewijk, so a move for Shackleton would be a good one if the Leeds man left Elland Road in the summer.

At 24, Shackleton will want to play regular football, and that's something he hasn't had at Leeds this season, and it will likely get worse if the club are promoted to the Premier League.

Last season, Shackleton spent Leeds' Premier League relegation campaign on loan at Millwall, showing that there may not be regular football for him at Elland Road if the club are promoted to the Premier League.

It would be easy for him to stay at Leeds if he's offered a deal and play a bit-part role, but leaving the club and nailing down a starting position at Championship level would be far more beneficial for his career.
