FLW take a look at some of the free agents Swansea City could sign this summer

Despite making a number of signings so far, Swansea City aren't done in the transfer market and are looking to add more players to their small squad.

It's reported by the BBC that Swansea want to add four more players to their squad before the transfer window shuts later this month, so it's set to be a busy couple of weeks in SA1.

Swansea are working with one of the smaller budgets in the division, so they won't be able to go and splash the cash like some clubs are, which means they're going to have to be shrewd if they're to add four new players to their squad.

One such way to add to their squad without breaking the bank would be signing free agents, with the club not having to pay a transfer fee and the player perhaps willing to take a smaller wage, especially with the season now having started.

With that in mind, here are two free agents that Swansea City should consider this summer.

Ryan Schofield

Despite signing a new goalkeeper in the form of Lawrence Vigouroux, Swansea could do with signing an extra goalkeeper in the aftermath of Andy Fisher suffering an injury in pre-season.

Vigouroux will be Swansea's first choice this season but with youngsters Nathan Broome and Evan Watts the club's only other fit options between the sticks, a move for free agent Ryan Schofield could make sense as backup.

Schofield is a free agent after leaving Portsmouth this summer, but he has previous Championship experience and would make decent short-term cover.

The 24-year-old was Huddersfield's first-choice goalkeeper for a large part of the 2020/21 campaign and has 33 Championship appearances under his belt, so he'd certainly be a more suitable backup than the likes of Broome and Watts.

A short-term deal would give him the chance to impress in training and in cup games, and at 24, Schofield is still very young in goalkeeper terms. In the right environment, Schofield could thrive and get back to the level he was during the Terriers' 2020/21 campaign, where he was first choice.

James Lawrence

Swansea are in need of another senior centre-back this summer, with only Ben Cabango, Harry Darling, and Kristian Pedersen on their books, and it remains to be seen if the latter will still be at the club come the end of the transfer window.

With that in mind, a move for 11-cap Welsh international James Lawrence could be a decent option, with the 31-year-old a free agent after leaving Nuremberg earlier this summer.

Swansea have promising young centre-back Filip Lissah on their books, but signing someone of Lawrence's experience would add some much-needed depth and nous to Luke Williams' young squad.

As well as being a central defender, Lawrence can also play as a left-back and in central midfield, so his versatility would be well-received, and you can't go wrong with that sort of experience on a free transfer.
