Giovani dos Santos has made incredible progress over the last 24 hours and is now expected to be on the bench when América take on Querétaro this weekend.

It’s been expected that he would not be ready until next Saturday’s match against Monterrey but could now receive his first minutes of the year on Sunday.

América supporters could also see the debut of Real Madrid loanee Sergio Díaz, who has been training with the first-team squad after receiving his work permit.

The 22-year-old Díaz, who had been a first-team star with Paraguayan outfit Cerro Porteño as a 15-year-old, will look to regain the form that he had with the Real Madrid Castilla side prior to his serious knee injury back in November 2017.

Club América have an option to buy the player at the end of his loan spell, so if Díaz can get off and running, América may have a valuable star on the pitch at a heavily discounted price.
