Alaba captained Austria (playing 88 minutes) as they got the better of Germany, with Rüdiger playing the full 90 minutes, in the friendly held at Vienna's Ernst-Happel. The Austrians went ahead after 28 minutes thanks to Sabitzer's curling strike which was too good for the goalkeeper.

In the second half, Germany were reduced to ten men after Sané's expulsion before Baumgartner made it 2-0 to the hosts.
