An offer for Aaron Ramsdale from a bottom-half Premier League club has been rejected, following reports of interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Football.London report that an approach from a bottom-half Premier League side to Aaron Ramsdale has been rejected, despite the goalkeeper’s uncertain future at Arsenal.

Ramsdale wants to play regularly, as you’d expect, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll move on immediately. Football.London report that Arsenal’s position is clear, that they don’t want to lose the goalkeeper.

Though the bottom-half Premier League club isn’t named, there were reports last week of interest in Ramsdale from 12th-place Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Alex Wood wrote for the Daily Star that Ramsdale is top of Wolves’ shortlist of potential replacements for Jose Sa, with their current number one wanted by clubs in Saudi Arabia and Wolves boss Gary O’Neil keen to cash in.

Wolves are increasingly confident they’ll sell Sa in January, despite putting a £35m asking price on his head, and Ramsdale had been earmarked as his replacement.

Wood added that whilst Ramsdale is happy to fight for his place at Arsenal, he’d prefer guaranteed first-team action.

But if they were the bottom-half team in question, it seems their offer has already been knocked back.

The links seemed strange to begin with, particularly considering Ramsdale’s historical animosity towards Wolves.

The goalkeeper was brought up a West Bromwich Albion fan, and he celebrated the win away to Wolves last year with the traditional West Brom “boing boing” celebration in front of the Wolves fans.

Later that same year, Ramsdale responded to quotes from Ruben Neves about Arsenal “over-celebrating” victories by sprinting up the pitch and waving his arms in the air in front of Neves after the final whistle of another win.

Perhaps those feelings of rivalry were behind the rejection, if Wolves were indeed the team turned down.
