Tottenham Hotspur target Brennan Johnson backed to make “Big 6” Premier League move on one condition

Tottenham Hotspur target Brennan Johnson has been backed to move to one of the “Big 6” Premier League clubs on one condition. His national team boss Robert Page believes so if the youngster’s current club Nottingham Forest fails in their attempt to promote to the England top-flight for the next season.

Johnson has earned rave reviews for his performances in the Championship this season. He has made quite a name for himself with lots of plaudits, but that has not deterred the young prospect. He has continued to show a similar output and even improved his displays in the last few months attracting Tottenham’s interest in the process.

Speaking in an open interview (h/t The Sun), Wales manager Page has expressed that the 19-year-old has shown great promise and growth in recent times. He added that Johnson suits the Big 6 clubs at this moment, making him an unreachable target for the mid-table sides who were interested in signing him in January.

“I think he’s top-six now. He has shown he’s got that potential and ability. I’ve seen it in him for a long time and it’s been great to watch his development. I think that the teams showing interest in him in January have lost out now.”

Problems for Spurs?

The likes of Brentford, Newcastle United, Leeds United and Leicester City had targeted Johnson in the winter transfer window. However, the Welsh coach’s words would certainly deal a damning blow to all of them if they had plans to rekindle their interest moving forward.

Arsenal were also actively vying to secure the Championship ace’s signature, so it remains to be seen if they would reconsider their stance or not following Page’s admission. Tottenham could be concerned thinking whether the other top teams will get alerted by this claim and register their interest in Johnson.

That would not be surprising at all, as many supporters have claimed that Johnson is the best young talent in the English second division as of now. He has played a crucial part in helping Forest get through to the playoff finals as they battle Huddersfield Town this Sunday in their attempt to make it into the top flight.

It would be best if Spurs would consider Page’s words as a warning and complete Johnson’s signing at the earliest to prevent others from entering the fray. At the same time, they are also given further affirmation that their pursuit to sign the attacking midfielder is the right decision.

Prising the Reds ace could prove to be quite expensive since Steve Cooper’s side had rejected a £15million transfer bid from Thomas Frank’s side last January. Johnson has gone on to perform even better since then, so it is normal for his value to increase even further, indicating the stern challenge that lies our way.

Whether the North London club can facilitate a transfer not or would only be known in due time. Following Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso’s exit (on loan), we lack an attacking midfielder in our ranks, so perhaps Johnson could negate that need in the future.
