1860 Munich are facing a possible points deduction, their league licence being revoked, and administration, according to Abendzeiting Muchen.

The original Munich side was one of the founding members of the Bundesliga in 1963 and were, for a long time, the top club in Bavaria.

However, fast-forward to 2024 and The Lions are now playing in the 3. Liga and facing tough financial difficulties.

1860 must pay €3m by Thursday 31st October to the DFB.

Failing that, the Deutsche Football Association could inflict a 9 point deduction of the club.

This would send 1860 to the bottom of the third division on 5 points and seven from safety.

1860 Munich have been making a loss for years with investments drying up, poor off-field management, and the lack of homegrown talent to sell for large profits.

1860 shareholder, Hasan Ismaik, has compensated for the lack of funds over the past few seasons alongside other key shareholders. It’s unsure whether this will be the case this time around in order to avoid penalties from the DFB.

What doesn’t make matters any easier for 1860 is that there isn’t a Managing Director at the club since the departure of Oliver Müller.

Instead, Dr. Christian Werner has to take care of the matter. He is said to have received visits from Vice-President and Auditor Karl-Christian Bay on Monday morning.

Worst Case Scenario

The worst possible case for 1860 is that the €3m payment will be missed and the club are hit with a points deduction. Furthermore, if their financial matters aren’t in order by the end of the playing season, the club will most likely lose their licence for the 3. Liga and then face the possibility of falling into administration.
