Scott Twine has been on a steep upward trajectory since joining Newport County on loan in 2020/21.

The 22-year-old earned a move from Swindon Town to Milton Keynes Dons last summer, to which has been a resounding success and Twine will be eyeing promotion to the Championship.

According to The West Ham Way podcast, the Hammers are interested in a summer deal for Twine, with the versatile forward catching the eye in League One.

Twine is not ready for the giant leap to the Premier League just yet, and it would be very interesting to see how he fares in the second tier at some point, although if the Dons do not win promotion this season, the Hammers could swoop for the 22-year-old and deploy him out on loan in the Championship next term.

Twine has scored 14 goals and assisted nine in all competitions this season, MK Dons have gone from strength to strength under Liam Manning although Twine’s form has dipped since Matt O’Riley’s January departure to Celtic.

The Swindon Town academy graduate has incredible ability in shooting from long range and therefore has not been shy of a highlight reel in the last couple of seasons.

The regularity of these long range strikes has been the amazing thing, typically once a season or even once in a career strikes seem to be an average goal for Twine who will be a key player in the Dons kicking on in League One’s crescendo.

Twine is averaging 3.07 shots on target, 0.56 goals + assists and 3.56 dribbles per 90 minutes this season, as per Wyscout, and there is a sense that he will not be playing in the third tier next season, with or without MK Dons.

Who was manager of West Ham for the 2011/12 Championship season?

Alan Curbishley Sam Allardyce Alan Pardew Manuel Pelligrini

West Ham are light on attacking players at the moment, but more in central areas than wide, Twine can play through the middle but likes to drift around over the course of the match and the 22-year-old is not the answer in looking for a backup to Michail Antonio at the London Stadium.

It would be interesting to see how David Moyes would develop Twine, with a 2022/23 campaign in the Championship feeling like the most natural step up at this stage of his career.
