A bid has been accepted by Las Palmas for the striker

Las Palmas forward Sory Kaba is reportedly closing in on a return to the Championship amid interest from Sheffield Wednesday, West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City.

According to Spanish outlet Canarias7, Kaba has "found a destination" which will help the La Liga outfit recoup part of the €3m figure that was shelled out to FC Midjtylland only last summer.

Kaba, who scored eight goals from 17 appearances to help Cardiff remain in the Championship while on loan during the 2022/23 campaign, found the back of the net only once in the Spanish top-flight last term and has been poised to depart this summer.

Kaba started just nine times in the league for Las Palmas, who have since added Oli McBurnie to their ranks on a free transfer following his departure from Sheffield United.

Sory Kaba set to leave Las Palmas amid Championship interest

The reveal from Spain is corroborated with an additional claim via transfer guru Darren Witcoop on X, who has reported that Las Palmas have accepted a £1.3m bid from an undisclosed Championship club, despite Kaba still having three years to run on his contract.

A prior report from Witcoop last month revealed interest from the Owls amid fears of being priced out of a move for Ike Ugbo, who remains highly regarded at Hillsborough after scoring seven goals during the second-half of last season.

However, it has now emerged that Troyes, having sold Brazilian prodigy Savinho to Manchester City for £30m, have set an asking price of £4.5m for the Canadian international, according to Alan Nixon.

Meanwhile, it has been claimed by Sport Witness - via La Provincia - that both West Brom and Kaba's former club are pushing for a potential move alongside Sheffield United. Indeed, the report adds that the Baggies have expressed the most interest of the interested parties.

Any potential move could be accelerated by Hull City's recent transfer interest in Brandon Thomas-Asante, who is the subject of a reported £2.5m bid from the Tigers after scoring 11 times in the Championship during the 2023/24 term.

Sheffield Wednesday makes the most sense for Sory Kaba

The Guinean frontman evidently isn't short of suitors this summer and both West Brom and the Blades represent particularly appealing options if Kaba intends on eventually playing in the Premier League.

However, the two sides are said to share an interest in Leicester City's Tom Cannon while Chris Wilder has already signed Kieffer Moore from Bournemouth so you do wonder if ample opportunity would be hard to come by at either of those clubs.

Elsewhere, there are certain factions of Cardiff's fanbase who would welcome Kaba back to the Welsh capital with open arms. He was a driving force in Cardiff's survival under Sabri Lamouchi two seasons ago and attained cult-hero status at the time, but the state of play at the club is a stark contrast now.

They'll be deploying a different style of play next season though and that may not suit Kaba. Cardiff are also set to sign Wilfried Kanga on loan from Hertha Berlin, who will be expected to lead the line all season long, so Wednesday might prove to be the best destination.

It's unlikely they'll match Troyes' asking price for Ugbo and it remains to be seen whether it rules them out of the running full stop. Assuming Ugbo doesn't return to South Yorkshire for 2024/25, Kaba would surely be a shoo-in to start under Danny Rohl and that's why it would make plenty of sense if Wednesday are indeed the club making significant advances for his signature.
