They grow up so fast, right? Way back as a 13-year-old Erik Ten Hag was on Dutch television and he grilled legend of the game Johann Cruyff on how to communicate with players.
Cruyff, back in 1983, was still a player in the Netherlands.
And Twitter user @RuudAzz has translated the exchange:
Cruyff: âBut it happens a lot, right, that a trainer yells. Or does that not happen with you guys?â
Ten Hag: âI think you should watch out that you donât yell to the youth too much, because you can break a player like that. But on a higher level, such as the first team of Ajax, you should be able to say something about it. Those guys train almost every day in the week. If they keep making the same mistakes, you should be able to confront them.
Cruyff: âSo that means you differentiate between youth and paid football?â
Ten Hag: âYesâ
The intelligence and confidence to challenge Cruyff at that age? Clearly the Manchester United manager was destined for greatness.
