Bruno Fernandes was the stand-out performer for Manchester United during the FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City on Sunday.

The Red Devils went into the game as clear favourites against the Sky Blues and they raced into a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break.

United were 3-0 in front before the hour mark and they looked on course for a routine win before a stunning comeback from Coventry.

The Championship outfit deservedly pulled level. They were denied a late winner in extra-time after a marginal offside decision through VAR.

Mark Robins’ side eventually lost in the penalty shoot-out. United were probably lucky to win based on their performance from the 70th minute.

Despite this, there were some positives to carry forward. Fernandes deserves praise for another quality all-round performance in a crucial game for United.

The Portuguese delivered a sumptuous corner for Harry Maguire’s headed goal before scoring his own with a slight deflection in the 58th minute.

Fernandes could have won the game for United in extra-time. His powerful strike from the edge of the box cannoned off the woodwork to safety.

Aside from his goal contributions, the 29-year-old had 123 touches with 85 successful passes. He created nine key chances while winning six duels.

Fernandes also scored the decisive fourth penalty in the shoot-out to put United ahead.

The €65 million signing has been leading by example despite the club’s poor defensive record. He has now registered 23 goal involvements this term.

The fans will be hoping that Fernandes can continue his recent good form as United look to finish their league season on a high before the FA Cup final.
