Blackburn Rovers could look to demand a transfer fee of £10-15 million for midfielder Adam Wharton amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur, as reported by Football Insider.
The Lancashire side have come into this transfer window in a difficult position, as they’ve gone from being in the top half to sliding down the table in recent weeks, which has resulted in them now looking over their shoulder, as they are 10 points adrift of the relegation places.
It has been a very difficult campaign for Rovers so far, as the summer transfer window saw them lose some key players due to their financial restraints.
That also resulted in Jon Dahl Tomasson’s future being thrown into question, and then it was stated that the club wouldn’t be able to do much transfer business in terms of incomings.
So, in this transfer window, the Blackburn boss will be hoping it can be a month more about what they can do in terms of improving the squad rather than players leaving in this transfer period.
Unfortunately for Blackburn, it seems it is going to be another transfer window where the future of Wharton comes into question.
Blackburn announced in December that midfielder Adam Wharton had extended his contract at the club until the summer of 2028.
But that news has seemingly done little to put Premier League sides looking at potentially signing the player this month.
It was reported by Football Insider earlier this week, that both Tottenham and Everton were stepping up their interest in the player, after both regularly watching him.
Now, in a new report from the same outlet, it claims that Blackburn are desperate to keep hold of Wharton and are ready to reje3ct any offers they receive.
However, it also states that Blackburn may find it hard to reject a big offer, especially one that falls into the bracket of their £10–15 million valuation.
Adam Wharton is a player who came through the academy at Ewood Park, playing for the club’s under-18s and under-21s.
The 19-year-old broke into the first team set-up last season, playing 18 games in the Championship, scoring two goals and grabbing one assist along the way.
This season, Wharton has carried on where he left off, playing in 24 of the club’s 26 league games so far.
Of those 24 games, Wharton has started 20 of them, during which he has grabbed one goal, which came in the recent defeat to Watford, while he has also chipped in with three assists.
The midfielder has found himself at times out of the starting XI, but he is very much a part of the club’s main plans going forward.
Of course, Blackburn Rovers will be desperately keen to keep hold of Adam Wharton, not just this month but for a few more years.
However, it does seem that it is only a matter of time before the player departs Ewood Park and makes a move up to the Premier League.
But there’s no rush for the player, as he’s only 19, and with the talent he has, he seems destined for the top, whether he moves this month or in the summer.
So, Blackburn need to try and be strong and keep hold of the midfielder until the summer at the very least, as if they lose him this month, it could derail their season even more.
