Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in a deal to sign Stade Rennais forward M’Baye Niang, according to journalist Ekrem Konur.

Niang found regular game time hard to come by in the 2020/21 season with the French side, and spent part of last year’s campaign on loan with Al-Ahli.

He has previously been on the books with the likes of AC Milan and Torino in the past, but made the move to Stade Rennais in 2019.

The 26-year-old has made 92 appearances in total for Stade Rennais, and chipped in with 30 goals and nine assists in total for them, although it remains to be seen as to where his future lies ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Nottingham Forest are reportedly rivalling Celtic, Venezia and Anderlecht in the race to strike an agreement to sign Niang, although it remains to be seen as to which club is leading the race to land his signature.

We take a more in-depth look at some of Niang’s statistics from his career to date, and see what sort of player Nottingham Forest would be getting if they were to sign the forward this summer.

Niang was a raw talent whilst with AC Milan, and made 79 appearances in total for the Italian giants, before departing the San Siro in favour of a move to Torino in 2018.

The forward has played through 14948 minutes of action over the years in his senior career, and will be looking to add to that at whichever club he moves to in the summer transfer window.

Nottingham Forest could be a tempting offer for Niang as well, with the Reds looking to add much-needed competition to their attacking options, with Lewis Grabban only having Lyle Taylor as his main competitor for his starting spot.

With 54 goals to his name in senior football so far, it shows that he’s got an eye for goal, which will be pleasing to see for Chris Hughton, who could certainly benefit from adding depth to their side ahead of the new season, as they look to challenge higher up the second-tier standings.

Niang can operate both as a central striker, but can also play out wide if required, which would make him a versatile option to have for any potential suitors.

The 26-year-old has attempted 1099 dribbles in his career to date, and with a dribble success rate of 49.8%, it doesn’t make for the worst of reading.

Niang isn’t shy of trying his luck with a shot either, with the Stade Rennais forward attempting 440 shots so far in senior football.

But the forward has also shown that he’s comfortable when in possession, with Niang being successful in 2624 of the 3499 passes he attempted, and that’ll be pleasing to see for Forest, who averaged 49.8% possession from the 2020/21 season.

Additional strength in depth is more than welcome at the City Ground with Nottingham Forest, and the Reds could be making a shrewd addition this summer if they were to strike an agreement to sign Niang ahead of the likes of Celtic.
