Chelsea were linked with PSG’s teenage superstar Désiré Doué a year ago, and it looks like our interest in the attacker has gone nowhere.
A source has told us that the Blues, along with Man City, Liverpool and Man U are still interested in trying to persuade him to come to the Premier League, and are “closely monitoring his performances.” This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with the rising star.
We are told that Chelsea scouts watched Doué in recent games against St.-Étienne and Angers and closely evaluated the youngster’s skills. Of course, given our current model is to try and sign the best young players in the game, it’s no surprise we like the wonderkid, with his technical ability, game vision and impressive performances in attack.
PSG are, of course determined to keep hold of Doué. The source says they wouldn’t even sell him for £100m which doesn’t surprise us. They don’t need money, they want hungry, quality young players, and in the attacker they’ve got just that.
Desire Doue in his time at Rennes last season. Chelsea still want him – but his price tag is surely now too high.
Frankly, this is one of the less believable rumours we’ve heard in a while. It seems like we really were in for Doué a year ago when he was at Rennes, before he made the PSG move, but now he’s there and doing well there’s no way we’re going to persuade him away.
Even ignoring the financial side of the deal, he’s thriving at the biggest club in his homeland, contributing to the first team and about to win the first of (likely) many titles. Why would he throw that away to come to Stamford Bridge and struggle to a draw with Brentford?
