Could Liverpool break Newcastle hearts three times in one summer?

The Geordies fancied themselves as frontrunners for Hugo Ekitike - even submitting an offer to Eintracht Frankfurt for the striker. But those attempts fell short - with the Frenchman confirmed as a Liverpool player on Wednesday for an initial £69m.

Then came the reports that Alexander Isak wants OUT of the North East and Liverpool are being primed as his most likely destination.

Missing out on Ekitike was bad enough; for Newcastle to lose Isak - the man Ekitike was supposed to replace - would be doubly heartbreaking.

Could Isak and Gordon join Liverpool?

The Reds will have to go to extraordinary lengths to land the Swede - but don’t rule it out. Anything is possible this summer - especially if deals are concluded outward for Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.

There remains the possibility that Liverpool inflict even MORE damage on Newcastle however with an attempt to sign Anthony Gordon.

The club made one attempt to sign the 24-year-old last summer but Newcastle pulled out of talks having met their PSR obligations through other sales.

Gordon ended up signing a new deal - protecting Newcastle from a transfer fee perspective with Gordon now reckoned to be worth £100m - but Liverpool’s interest hasn’t gone away.

Gordon wants to play for Liverpool

That’s according to a new report in TBR Football - which claims England international Gordon is now prepared to WALK to Liverpool in order to get his preferred deal done.

“If Diaz goes, I wouldn’t rule Gordon out,” says the report from Graeme Bailey. “I think if Diaz — the left-sided player — goes, Liverpool will bring someone in.

“Obviously, we know they’ve talked to Rodrygo, but Gordon is very much in that conversation for them.

“We know he’s a player they’ve talked about signing before. We know his club is Liverpool after they emerged as an option when he left Everton. So Gordon is a very interesting one.

“I’m not for one minute saying he’s unhappy at Newcastle, but he didn’t end the season on a high. He was battling and got dropped at times.

“Gordon would walk to Liverpool — it’s his hometown club. He loves them. He wants to play for them.”
