Despite starting zero strikers, the reigning champions managed to take control of the pitch instantly.

Kingsley Coman scored two in the opening 15 minutes before Thomas Müller added a third to put the visitors in cruise control.

New signing João Cancelo was especially key, registering his second assist in as many games.

The hosts pulled one back just before the break via Jakub Kamiński, meaning goalkeeper Yann Sommer has yet to record a clean sheet for his new club.

Coming out after the break, Wolfsburg then ramped up the pressure and had roughly three chances to add to the scoresheet but wasted every opportunity.

A little bit of luck then went their way when the visitors had Joshua Kimmich sent off.

However, Bayern’s attack still proved too much, even with a man down, as Jamal Musiala added a fourth.

Late on some drama ensured when Mattias Svanberg turned things 4-2 before Wolfsburg thought they had another, only to see the goal ruled out.

It was Julian Nagelsmann’s first win ever at Volkswagen Arena, and the club goes top of the Bundesliga one point over Union Berlin while Wolfsburg are seventh.
