The LA Galaxy have one of the worst defenses in the league. In fact, it could be ranked even lower if the six-time MLS Cup winners do not have an answer for their next opponent's leading scorer.

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Galaxy travel to Colorado to play the Rapids. Midfielder Djordje Mihailovic has been one of the reasons his team is vying for a playoff spot.

There are two reasons why the LA Galaxy need to accommodate a plan to cover the 26-year-old star.

The LA Galaxy defense & keepers have struggled against top scorers.

Just look back two weeks ago when the LA Galaxy squandered a 3-2 lead deep into the second half on the road in St. Louis.

João Klauss was responsible for all three goals scored by St. Louis City SC. He had two on the season prior, but his team has had its fair share of struggles scoring all season. Except against the LA Galaxy.

The Rapids also do not have a high scoring offense. They enter Wednesday night having scored 18 goals in 18 games this season. That's the same amount as the LA Galaxy in the same sample size.

"But we can't lose track of our marks and we can't let them win the second one and we have to deal with whatever comes off that first header. But, yeah, we manage to lose the first one and we lose the second one, and [Joao] Klauss bangs two of them home from kind of an odd angle where he makes no mistake about how he hits it, and he finds a good spot. Ultimately the shot -- neither of the shots are on Novak [Micovic]."Greg Vanney, Head Coach of the LA Galaxy

The LA Galaxy have set the tone since their home season opener against San Diego FC when Anders Dreyer scored twice, once in each half. They same trend occurred twice in the same game against the New York Red Bulls.

Emil Forsberg and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting found the back of the net two times each in the 7-0 blowout against the defending champions. Those two players are the Red Bulls' top scorers this year.

If the LA Galaxy want to avoid losing for a 13th time in 19 games, they must contain Mihailovic for all the same reasons stated.

Djordje Mihailovic's not a very accurate goal shooter.

Last year, the Jacksonville, Florida native scored 11 times in 29 games for the Colorado Rapids. This season, Mihailovic has just seven while taking 40 shot attempts.

He currently is shooting below 20% for the second season in a row. Only in 2022 (CF Montreal) has Mihailovic had a shooting percentage at 20% or higher.

In 17 games, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has made 10 goals on 25 shots. His shooting accuracy is nearly double of Mihailovic's with 40% this year.

Former LA Galaxy star Dejan Joveljic also has 10 goals on the year. He has accomplished that on 27 shot attempts (37% accuracy).

The leading scorer for the MLS Western Conference leaders, the Vancouver Whitecaps, also has 10 goals. Brian White did so on 34 shots (29%), still better than Mihailovic.

Now, compare that to the LA Galaxy's top scorer. Forward Christian Ramirez has four goals on 19 attempts for a 21% accuracy.
