Currently 10 points adrift of the automatic promotion places, it will be interesting to see whether Bolton will be able to close this particular gap between now and January.

In order to bolster his side’s chances of securing a place in the second-tier in 2023, Ian Evatt may need to engage in some transfer business.

Evatt could also use the upcoming window as an opportunity to sanction some departures for existing members of his squad.

Here, we have decided to take a look at one in and two outs that we could see at Bolton in January…

In: A new striker

Whereas Bolton have made an encouraging start to the season, their current group of strikers have yet to set the third-tier alight on a consistent basis.

Amadou Bakayoko has only scored once at this level during the current term while Jon Dadi Bodvarsson (2 goals) and Dion Charles (3 goals) have not been prolific either.

Although this aforementioned trio will be confident in their ability to play a key role in Bolton’s push for a top-six finish, it could be argued that Evatt ought to consider signing another striker who is capable of providing some adequate competition during the second half of the season.

Providing that the Bolton boss is able to nail his recruitment, there is every chance that his side will go on to produce a plethora of impressive attacking displays in the New Year.

Out: Lloyd Isgrove

Lloyd Isgrove would have been hoping to make a positive impression for Bolton during the opening months of the current campaign.

However, the winger has only featured on one occasion in the third-tier this season and recently suffered a hamstring injury.

Unlikely to force his way into Bolton’s starting eleven when he returns to full fitness, Isgrove may find it beneficial to seek a permanent departure from the club in January.

By joining a club who are willing to play him on a regular basis, the 29-year-old could potentially reignite his career.

Out: Luke Hutchinson (loan)

Currently behind James Trafford and Joel Dixon in the pecking order at the University of Bolton Stadium, Luke Hutchinson has yet to feature at senior level for Wanderers.

In order to further the goalkeeper’s development, Bolton ought to consider sanctioning a loan move for him in January.

Hutchinson, who is currently being deployed in Bolton’s B team, will gain some much-needed experience by sealing a switch to a team in a lower division before eventually returning to the League One side following the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.
