Real Madrid continue to prove unplayable on the road in LaLiga. They were too strong for Alavés on matchday 16 to clinch a twelfth win in the competition thanks to goals for Weir, M. Oroz and Esther. It's another three points for Toril's team, who are still yet to taste defeat away from home to mark a fine start to the week and the double-header in the league (next up, Athletic at home on Saturday).

The early stages of the game were marked by a blistering pace. Alavés were first to try their luck when Miriam saw her free-kick saved by MisaMadrid began looking for an opener themselves and gradually laid siege to the hosts' penalty area. With 7 on the clock, Elba felled Esther in the box but the referee didn't see fit to point to the spot. Three minutes later, the madridistas had a double-chance to go in front when Jana repelled Olga's left-footed drive and then Esther narrowly missed the target from the resulting corner.  Weir and M. Oroz amongst the goals Before the first quarter of an hour was up, our team did get the lead their efforts merited. Weir pounced on a poor clearance by the Alavés defender following an Athenea cross, took the ball under her control and made it 0-1 with a gorgeous volley. The hosts responded quickly, but Elba's deflected header flew just wide (26’), and our team doubled their advantage before the break when M. Oroz turned in Athenea's lovely driven cross.

Alavés came close to making it 1-2 as the teams emerged from the dressing rooms but Miren and Carrillo's efforts were both kept out by the inspired Misa. This spurred the madridistas on and with 48 minutes gone, Nahikari's header from Teresa's free-kick crashed back off the crossbar. Toril's charges wanted more and the game's third goal did arrive, again with Athenea at the heart of the move. She notched her second assist of the night with a fine through-ball for Esther, who finished with aplomb (61’). In the closing stages, the Basque side made it 1-3 through Carrillo but Real Madrid pick up yet another victory on opposition soil.
