Real Madrid Castilla secured a deserved victory at the Alfredo Di Stéfano. The Whites were controversially reduced to ten men in the 27th minute when Mario Martín was given his marching orders, but prevailed against Atlético Sanluqueño, courtesy of a goal by Nico Paz in the first half. The game got off to a lively start as both teams showed great intensity. Sanluqueño first went close to scoring through Viti, but Cañizares pushed his shot away. Madrid replied on the quarter hour mark when Nico Paz's header from Tobias' cross just went over the crossbar.
Ten minutes later, the same player made the breakthrough. Nico Paz's free-kick bounced off the wall, and he latched on to the rebound firing in a cross that deflected off an opponent and found its way into the net. Nevertheless, the game soon became an uphill struggle for Castilla after Mario Martín committed a foul on the edge of the area, which referee Daniel Palencia Caballero decided to punish with a straight red card (27'). Despite the numerical disadvantage, the Madridistas managed to hold on to their lead. Castilla hang on with ten men After the re-start, the visitors were the first to threaten with a low shot from Guti that Cañizares parried away nicely. Although Sanluqueño dominated possession, Castilla's intense pressure and solid defending kept the home side's goal in check. In the 71st minute,' Joan Rojas broke into the Madrid area, but again Cañizares diverted his cross shot with a marvellous save. The Whites looked to counterattack and Palacios came close to doubling their lead after good link-up play with Peter, but Samu Pérez saved his shot when one-on-one with the keeper. The last few minutes were pulsating. Nacho Ramón could have equalised with a shot that struck the woodwork, while Gonzalo and Palacios almost put the game to bed after a series of rebounds with the ball going out for a corner. Castilla held on for a heroic 1-0 win.
