Real Madrid sealed another viral three points against Alavés for the Whites’ qualification cause for the Women’s Champions League. Alberto Toril‘s charges dominated the game throughout and secured the spoils at the Ciudad Deportiva José Luis Compañón courtesy of a second-half goal by Esther. The madridistas must now turn their attention to the rearranged fixture away against Rayo Vallecano, which will be played on Wednesday 17th (5 pm CET).

The visitors controlled possession from the opening stages of the clash as they looked to carve out chances. The first came in the 8th minute, when Esther’s header was comfortably caught by Jana. On the half-hour mark, Teresa tried her luck from distance, but her strike was off target. Soon after, Rocío headed a cross from Teresa into the side-netting. The best chance of the half then fell to Esther on the stroke of half-time when the forward found herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but the latter spread herself well to make the save as a goalless half came to an end.

Madrid break the deadlock After the restart, Real Madrid continued to have the lion’s share of possession. Seven minutes into the second half, Esther sent a header crashing back off the crossbar. But the forward’s persistence finally paid off on the hour mark. The recently introduced Nahikari received the ball and played a first-time pass to send Esther through on goal and slot the ball past Jana to make it 0-1. The madridistas had more chances to increase their lead, but in the end, they only needed the one goal to clinch the three points. MATCH INFO 0-Alavés: Jana, S.
