0-1: Defeat against UDG Tenerife

Article image:0-1: Defeat against UDG Tenerife

Real Madrid lost in their clash with UDG Tenerife on their return to the Alfredo Di Stéfano on matchday 22 in the League. Our team created a series of chances but conceded with just seven minutes to go, ending a 14-game unbeaten run in the championship.

The first half was a period of few chances, though our team did fire off some sighters, notably through Athenea, though Aline was able to gather. With 38 minutes on the clock, Linda Caicedo was forced off through injury and Feller came on to replace her. Madrid gradually began to press up and Weir soon had a double opportunity to open the scoring. The Scottish forward rose to head an Olga corner over the bar with 41 on the clock, before finding space in the box with some superb individual play, only to fire inches wide. The second half started much the same as the first had finished, with Real Madrid looking dominant and creating chance after chance. Feller could have made it 1-0 on 48’, but her shot from inside the box failed to find the target. UDG Tenerife quickly responded with a Blom header, but the clearest chance of the game came with 67 minutes gone. Olga whipped a ball into the box from the left flank, Weir rose to meet it but Thais did superbly to tip the ball onto the crossbar and over. Toril's team continued to apply pressure and Athenea headed over the bar again (71’), but just as our team looked certain to get their goal, María José popped up at the other end with 83 minutes played to clinch all three points for the visitors.
