The LaLiga champions brought a sensational campaign to an end with a draw against Betis at the Santiago Bernabéu. Real Madrid had the chances to claim the three points, but they must now turn their attentions to the Champions League final on Saturday, 28 May against Liverpool at the Stade de France. The Whites went close early on when Karim Benzema connected well with Ferland Mendy’s cross, but Barta got himself in the way and the rebound fell to Toni Kroos, who missed the target from distance. Betis then looked to open the deadlock when Guido Rodríguez fired a shot wide of the post. In the 15th minute, Juanmi almost found a way through, but his header flew over the crossbar. Shortly after, Luka Modrić tried his luck from the edge of the area, but Silva was on hand to save.

Chances for Madrid Carlo Ancelotti’s men continued to look for a way through the Betis rearguard and Vini Jr. almost found the net when he steered a header inches over the bar. The best chance of the half fell to the visitors when Willian José struck the post. The intensity of the clash dropped a level before the break, but there was still time for the madridistas to carve out one more chance. Casemiro ran through with the ball from the centre circle and his fierce shot narrowly missed the post. Ancelotti freshened things up at half-time by introducing Camavinga and Valverde. The hosts fashioned the clearest opening of the night immediately after the restart as Benzema met Carvajal’s cross from the right, only for Rui Silva to parry to his effort, whilst Rodrygo failed to convert the follow-up. The LaLiga champions continued to probe and came close to breaking the deadlock, with the league’s leading scorer once again involved as his shot failed to find the far corner in the 53rd minute.

Madrid probed until the last Benzema was keen to get his goal and was a whisker away from doing so with a curling effort that came following a fine move involving Vini Jr. and Valverde. With 70 minutes played, Marcelo, Ceballos and Isco entered the fray. Ten minutes later, Vini Jr. cut in from the left and laid the ball off to Benzema, who failed to bring the ball under his spell and contrived to fire his effort over the bar. No goals were ultimately forthcoming as Madrid brought the curtain down on a fantastic LaLiga campaign, in which they were crowned champions back on 30 April, with a stalemate at the Santiago Bernabéu. The madridistas are now next in action on 28 May, when they meet Liverpool in the Champions League final at the Stade de France.
