Arsenal remains five points clear at the top of the Premier League after they sealed a last-gasp 3-2 comeback win over Bournemouth at the Emirates today.

Gary O’Neil’s side arrived in north London mired in the relegation places, but they would sensationally take the lead within 10 seconds of the kickoff. Arsenal failed to deal with a harmless-looking cross into the area and Philip Billing ghosted into the area to give his side a surprise lead.

Arsenal pinned the Cherries back pretty much straight away after the opener, sustaining attack after attack, however, the Cherries defended brilliantly and looked like a menace of the counterattack.

On 57 minutes a stunned silence descended over the Emirates when Argentine centre-back Marco Senesi rose highest to glance a header past Aaron Ramsdale from a corner.

The tension was palpable amongst the home support – especially after Man City’s 2-0 win over Newcastle earlier in the day, although on 62 minutes Thomas Partey arrived at the back post to head in and hand his side a lifeline.

Eight minutes later and Arsenal would draw level when two of Mikel Arteta’s substitutes combined. Academy graduate Reiss Nelson broke down the left before whipping in a pacey cross that Ben White volleyed home.

It looked like the game would end honours even, but in the seventh minute of injury time, Nelson collected the ball on the edge of the area and blasted an unstoppable left-footed half-volley past Neto in the Bournemouth that sent the home support wild.

Speaking afterwards Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was beaming and admitted it was the type of dramatic victory that will live long in memory.

“It was madness from the first second,” Arteta told BBC’s MOTD. ”We kept trying and dominating the game. We had a mountain to climb and we took it bit by bit.

“We had the hunger to go for the first goal. From then the atmosphere changed. Reiss Nelson hasn’t featured much because he has been injured. He comes on and puts in that performance. It was incredible to experience the emotion of the crowd. It’s going to stick with us.

“I am going to remember this day for a few things. I loved the initiative, the courage, their personality and the way they made things happen.

“When its ugly and when its difficult, that’s what big teams do. We have to make it easier for ourselves. But this is the Premier League.

“The opponents are good and they make it hard for you. Now we have the Europa League – many games coming up. We’re going to need everyone at their best.”
