Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Portuguese forward Joāo Félix from LaLiga side Atlético Madrid.

The 23-year-old has moved to Stamford Bridge on a loan deal until the end of the 2022/23 season.

Graham Potter has moved to add Félix to his squad after a poor run of form which has seen them win just two out of their last 10 games, a sequence of results which leaves them 10th in the Premier League table.

The Athletic reported on Monday that Chelsea will pay around €11m (£9.8m) for the six-month loan deal, although Atlético have also confirmed that Félix has signed a new contract with the club until 2027 before his temporary move to England.

Félix moved to Atlético from Benfica for €126m in 2019 becoming the fourth-most expensive transfer in the history of the game but his time at the Wanda Metropolitano has been mixed with highs and lows.

He helped the club win LaLiga in 2021 but has been in and out of the team under Diego Simeone, scoring 34 goals and providing 18 assists in 131 appearances.

The playmaker has also earned 28 caps for his country, finding the back of the net on four occasions.
