Steve Bruce has been sacked as manager of West Bromwich Albion, the club have announced on Monday.

The former Newcastle boss’ position had been under threat after they picked up just one win in their opening 13 games, leaving them in the Championship relegation zone.

The Baggies have now confirmed his departure, along with backroom staff Steve Agnew, Stephen Clemence and Alex Bruce.

Bruce had been in charge since February, taking over from Valerién Ismaël, and helped steer the side to a 12th place finish.

Under-21 coach Richard Beale will take interim charge at the Hawthorns, assisted by James Morrison and Gary Walsh.
