In a fresh blow for Barcelona, defender Sergino Dest has picked up a hamstring injury and is unlikely to play any part in the rest of the season.
The 21-year-old has had an injury-riddled campaign so far and has missed eight games (72 days) with various fitness issues during the 2021/22 term.
Dest had most recently been sidelined last month due to a thigh injury and had returned to action only recently. However, the right-back has now succumbed to another hamstring injury as confirmed by an official statement released by the club.
“Tests carried out on the first team player Sergino Dest have confirmed that the player has injured the semitendinosus muscle in his right hamstring. The player is unavailable for selection and his recovery will dictate his return.”
Building on this update from Barcelona, journalist Gerard Romero has claimed that the USMNT international is expected to be sidelined for a period of four to six weeks, which means essentially the defender’s season is over.
Signed from AFC Ajax in the summer of 2020, Dest has endured a difficult time at Barcelona. The defender was starting to show improvements under Xavi Hernandez of late and was expected to be given a more prominent role between now and the end of the season.
However, yet another injury setback means that the 21-year-old is unlikely to feature in the remaining five games for the Blaugrana.
