Another midfielder linked with Manchester United has completed a move elsewhere.

Youssouf Fofana has joined Serie A giants AC Milan on a four-year deal after months of speculation over his future, and he becomes the Rossoneri’s fourth signing of the summer.

The Frenchman, who starred at Euro 2024 earlier this summer, was reportedly being considered at Manchester United as an alternative to Manuel Ugarte.

After completing a move from AS Monaco to Milan over the weekend, Fofana can begin to settle in his new surroundings without Premier League links.

“It had a big effect when it came to my decision,” Fofana said after joining the Rossoneri, as per AC Milan’s official website.

“When the club is looking for you like AC Milan was looking for me, it’s obvious you want to go there. This is the right moment, for me and the squad: now I am a complete player.

“I want to play in the Champions League and win the Scudetto, I cannot wait to start. The project I saw from the club aligns with my ideas.”

It is believed that Milan will pay €25m including bonuses for Fofana’s services and he will wear the No.29 shirt, which was previously worn by Lorenzo Colombo.

Fofana leaves Monaco after making 175 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit, scoring seven goals and registering 15 assists. He is a box-to-box midfielder with strong defensive capabilities, hence why he came on United’s radar of alternatives to Ugarte this summer.

Meanwhile, French football expert Julien Laurens claims that United are still considering whether to make a third offer for Ugarte due to Casemiro’s improved form.

It would be naïve to rely on a 32-year-old defensive midfielder this summer, especially when there isn’t any cover for him in the squad.
