Charlton found an early advantage when Lloyd Jones' strike beat Will Norris, just minutes after he could've been sent off for a late challenge on Richard Kone.

Luke Berry then doubled that lead with a powerful strike from inside the box, giving the Addicks a 2-0 lead at half-time.

A howler from Norris allowed Matty Godden to make it three before Karoy Anderson added the fourth in a firmly embarrassing afternoon for Wycombe.

The game got off to the perfect start for the away side. Wycombe's January transfer target Jones sent the away end into raptures by putting Charlton ahead. Norris got a glove to the strike but couldn't keep it out.

Wanderers felt they should've had a penalty when Richard Kone was wiped out in the box by Macaulay Gillesphey. The Addicks defender got all man and no ball, but Will Finnie said no.

Charlton doubled their advantage after 25 minutes. Berry with a thunderous strike into the roof of the Wycombe net. The Chairboys had a mountain to climb, and didn't look like they were up to the task of competing with Nathan Jones' men.

Wanderers players protested, as once again Gillesphey looked to have committed a foul to benefit his team on Josh Scowen. But once again, the referee was having none of it.

The scorer of the visitors second goal was then withdrawn just minutes after hitting the back of the net. Berry collided with an opponent, which saw him unable to continue.

Godden had a great chance to make it 3-0, but Norris was down quickly to his right to deny the veteran striker and save his side from embarrassment in the first half.

Garath McCleary struck a shot miles over the bar in first half stoppage time, which pretty much summed up his side's performance in the opening 45 minutes.

Mike Dodds looked visibly angry walking down the tunnel at half-time, as his side had offered nothing going forward and Charlton looked more than comfortable in the lead.

The second half started very similarly to the first half, with the game looking rather scrappy in the middle of the park. Dodds changed his whole midfield unit early on in order to counteract this.

As the game resumed, Norris made an absolute howler which sealed the three points for the Addicks with 30 minutes left to play. The Wanderers keeper received a back pass and slipped, allowing Godden to prod home.

Substitute Anderson made it four just minutes later, which saw Nathan Jones kneeslide down the touchline in jubilation. To add insult to injury Wycombe's superior goal difference was completely decimated within 65 minutes of football.

It took Wycombe 85 minutes to muster their first shot on target. It was a great strike from substitute Alex Lowry that looked destined for the top corner, but Will Mannion made an excellent save to tip it behind for a corner.

Deep into stoppage time, Chuks Aneke was sent off for a foul on Luke Leahy, not that it would have any impact on the result.

After five minutes of stoppage time, Finnie finally put Wycombe out of their misery by bringing the contest to an end. It was an afternoon that would need quickly vanquishing from the players' memories, as Charlton firmly embarrassed the Blues on their own turf.

The promotion race has been blown firmly open, but Wanderers can't beat themselves up too much as they can swing it back in their favour next week with Charlton and Wrexham play each other.

League One table after Charlton Athletic humiliate Wycombe Wanderers

Following Wycombe's humiliation at the hands of Charlton, the upper hand was firmly with Wrexham, who can wrap up promotion next week. The Chairboys have also had their superior goal difference completely eradicated.

The only saving grace for Dodds' side is that the Red Dragons and the Addicks face each other next week. However, Wanderers must beat Leyton Orient if they have any chance of gaining automatic promotion.
