Maika Hamano’s first ever goal for Chelsea was enough to see the west London side beat Tottenham 1-0 on Wednesday.
Scorers: Hamano 37′
The Blues came into this clash knowing that they needed a win to go into the final day of the Women’s Super League season level on points with table-toppers Manchester City.
Spurs meanwhile were just three days from their FA Cup final heartbreak against Manchester United.
It should have been the visitors who bagged an opener after only 15 minutes but Maika Hamano’s header from 12 yards went just over the bar.
The Japan international eventually found her shooting boots though, netting on 37 minutes to score her first for the club.
Into the second half and Erin Cuthbert went close to adding a second as she marauded her way into the Spurs area, but couldn’t quite get her feet right to finish.
