Ajax have confirmed that Wout Weghorst will not travel to Spain for Thursday’s Europa League tie against Real Sociedad. The striker is unavailable due to a fitness issue. Ajax do state that ‘the striker can, however, join the squad on Thursday if he recovers in time.’
Kenneth Taylor and Davy Klaassen are also out of Francesco Farioli’s 22-man squad, with Taylor suspended and Klaassen not registered for European football. Instead, youngsters Jaydon Banel and Jorthy Mokio have been called-up.
Ajax are currently second in the Europa League table, just two points behind Lazio after four games. They’ve won three and drawn one of their matches so far, and Thursday’s clash with Sociedad is an opportunity for them to continue that fantastic form. The Dutch giants are currently on a 16-game unbeaten run across all competitions. Wout Weghorst’s absence will make Thursday’s test even tougher, but Brian Brobbey opened his account in the Eredivisie last weekend and will be looking to impress once again.
