FC Bayern Women have just completed five intense days at their training camp in Tyrol as they went about preparing for the new season. Head coach Alexander Straus put his team through two sessions each day, while also focusing on tactics and analysis off the pitch.

Straus believes the week in Austria was positive: “I’m very pleased with the training camp. We had a very high level in every session. We always want to go to our limits. This week was excellent. The players went about things every day like it was a matchday. That’s what good teams do. The internal competition for places drives that.”

Head coach Alexander Straus believes his team worked at a very high level during the training camp.

The Germany players who won bronze at the Paris Olympics were given time to recover and didn’t make the journey to Tyrol. However, Sydney Lohmann did join in with training on Friday. Six youth players bolstered numbers.

Captain Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir also expressed her satisfaction with the camp: “It was a very good week. We had a lot of training sessions and were able to work on a lot of things, which was important for the start of the season. We’ve spent a lot of time together, which helps bring us closer together as a team. It was intense, but we still had a lot of fun. That’s what a training camp should be like.”

Final friendly vs. Juventus, Supercup vs. Wolfsburg

Bayern don’t have long left in their pre-season work. Their final friendly match is on Tuesday against Juventus in Unterhaching (tickets).

The first competitive fixture of the season is then all about silverware as Die Frauen contest the inaugural Google Pixel Supercup against DFB Cup holders Wolfsburg in Dresden on 25 August (tickets).

“Due to the short space of time, it’s not possible to really be 100 percent prepared at the end of pre-season,” added Straus. “But we’re making good progress. We always need to be hungry and want to develop. That’s my job, continuously improving the players and the team.”
