Under-18s Lead Coach Oliver Reiss says City’s tricky triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers was another ‘perfect’ setting for his team to develop as we enter the business end of the 2024/25 season.
Second-half goals from Finlay Gorman and Floyd Samba secured a 2-0 win on a sunny Saturday afternoon, extending City’s winning run to 15 successive league games and still unbeaten in 2025.
It was also a second consecutive match where City had to fight tooth and nail for the win, narrowly overcoming Sunderland with a 2-0 win last month. But it’s these difficult games Reiss and his team are enjoying the most.
“I’m happy for games like this, why? Because this gives us the most challenges,” began Reiss.
“It was a balance between playing football and fighting. We had to prove we can do both and I’m so happy for the clean sheet again too.
“We defended well and we scored two times. In the end it was good for us to develop.
“Having tough games like this, tight games like this, and coming out as the winner in [the] perfect [conditions].
“First of all yes happy with the win but also happy with the kind of match [we played in].”
The three points also means City remain two points clear of Manchester United with seven games left to play.
And our next test in those will see City travel to Stoke for another unpredictable and difficult match-up.
But it’s another game Reiss and his team are ready to take on.
“We are getting to the final [end of the season] so for sure there is going to be some incredibly tough games,” said Reiss.
“Away games are especially tough for us. So I’m happy for today’s game [because it helps] to prepare for the big games and all the games coming up.”
