On Tuesday, it was reported (see below) that Newcastle United were interested in signing Jorgen Strand Larsen.
Eddie Howe’s recruitment team in discussions via intermediaries to try and get a deal done.
The Athletic saying that their information is that Jorgen Strand Larsen is keen on joining Newcastle United.
In his debut Premier League season (2024/25), the Wolves striker made 30 PL starts and five sub appearances, the Norway international managing 14 league goals and four PL assists.
Now on Thursday, the Express and Star are reporting that Wolves are facing a real fight to keep Jorgen Strand Larsen.
With Newcastle said to be pushing to sign the striker in a £60m+ deal.
Wolves and Newcastle claimed to be only around £5m apart in valuations on Jorgen Strand Larsen.
However, a familiar issue involved as well in that with the transfer window set to close in 11 days time, if Wolves did sell their star striker they would then have to find at least one if not two new strikers themselves to replace the Norway international.
The Mag report – 19 August 2025:
Newcastle United are interested in Jorgen Strand Larsen.
Eddie Howe’s recruitment team now in discussions via intermediaries to try and get the signing done.
The news comes via David Ornstein at The Athletic who says that his information is that Jorgen Strand Larsen is keen on moving to Newcastle United.
However, the Wolves striker is not going to agitate to leave Molineux, according to Ornstein.
The Athletic journalist states that Jorgen Strand Larsen is among a small group of strikers under consideration by United.
My reading of this, is that with the Wolves striker, we are talking about a replacement for Callum Wilson, not as a potential replacement for Alexander Isak. Just as is the case with trying to sign Yoane Wissa.
Jorgen Strand Larsen did well in his first season at Wolves after a £23m move from Celta Vigo.
The now 25 year old having been directly involved in exactly a third of the 54 Premier League goals that Wolves scored last season. In 30 PL starts and five sub appearances, the Norway international managed 14 league goals and four PL assists.
I don’t think Jorgen Strand Larsen is a bad idea if Newcastle United are now trying to sign him as a Callum Wilson replacement, but if he did sign for NUFC, then I think a striker with a higher/better profile would also need to come in before Newcastle United would consider selling Isak. I can’t imagine who that striker would be and as Liverpool refuse to make a serious offer for Alexander Isak as well, I think a departure for Isak this window is very difficult to imagine.
