The last few weeks haven't been ideal for Bayern Munich fans when it comes to the transfer market: not only did Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz decide against joining der Rekordmeister, now Bayern's quest for a new star in attacking midfield / on the wings got even harder.
Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams has, according to multiple sources, decided against a future in Munich and is now fully concentrated on a move to Barcelona and Bayern's ex-coach Hansi Flick.
While it was never reported that Williams was close to joining the Bavarian team, he also never fully rejected a move - until now. His transfer to Barcelona seems to be imminent and the only question is how Barcelona will pay for his services - most likely in several installments.
Bayern seem to be desperately looking for a new star in attacking midfield or on the wings - but with the rejections of Wirtz and Williams, Bayern's image has taken a hit on the transfer market.
AC Milan's Rafael Leão and PSG's Bradley Barcola are Bayern's other preferred transfer targets - but both seem to be unrealisic as well, as of right now. Milan want around €100 million for their player and PSG have no reason to sell their player, since he has not come forward with any intentions to leave the club.
It therefore seems more realistic, that Bayern will increase their interest in players like Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma, whom they have been scouting for a while now. The 28-year-old has had good season with the Premier League side, but wasn't a preferred transfer target for Bayern, mostly because of his age.
It remains to be seen, if Bayern can shake off their rejection streak and return to former glory and strength on the transfer market - the Bundesliga would surely benefit from that.
