'Will fit really well': Arne Slot has ALREADY told player his position at Liverpool

New Liverpool head coach Arne Slot says he’s already talked to Darwin Nunez - and made it very clear where he’s playing next season.

Arne Slot says he has already talked things over with Darwin Nunez, despite the Uruguayan being a few weeks before joining back up with Liverpool. Nunez is currently at the Copa America in the USA, where his country have a fantastic chance of winning it all.

Nunez is in fantastic form for his country, too. To the point where he's almost a different player to the one we've seen at Anfield - their recent win over the USA was the first time in eight games that he didn't score.

But this is coming after a season of inconsistency. One where Nunez eventually found himself out of the starting XI after his form fell off a cliff.

The 24-year-old didn't score in any of the final 10 games of the season and only had one goal since the start of April. For a no.9, it wasn't good enough in the end - even if his early-season form promised so much.

Slot, however, is in no doubt about Nunez. He's backing him and has even confirmed to the player where he'll operate next season.

Arne Slot talks to Darwin Nunez

“I assume he will fit really well into this [playing style] because I like him. I’ve told him already,” said Slot, per the Telegraph.

“He is one of the players I have spoken to. He might have had some struggles with finishing opportunities, but he came a lot of times into those positions. It’s clear for him which position he is going to play. It’s clear for me as well and me telling him made it clear for him.

“I just told him that, from what I saw, he played multiple positions and I told him what positions – or position – I see him playing.”

Now, we've got to imagine that Slot will start Nunez as a striker. He's played out on the left before - regularly at one point in his career - but if you're going to pick a position outright, it would be as a no.9.

And that explains why there have been absolutely no links to strikers in this transfer window. Liverpool appear to be all-in on Nunez and the idea that Slot can correct his form in a way Jurgen Klopp couldn't quite manage.
