That's according to journalist Alan Nixon reporting via Patreon on Saturday, Ryan Lowe’s side hold great interest in the 30-year-old and are trying to get a deal done this summer.

The move would provide Mullin with an ideal platform to get back to playing regular football, and in turn give Wigan a proven EFL talisman.

Wigan are reportedly trying to put together a package that would be enough to secure the forward’s signature, after his exit from the Racecourse Ground this summer seems all but confirmed.

Nixon states that Mullin may be allowed to leave for nothing, which would allow clubs such as Wigan the opportunity to tackle his high wage demands.

Therefore, if Wigan can match what the forward is asking for, it may not be too long before the Wrexham legend arrives at the Brick Community Stadium.

Playing time has been much scarcer for the striker this term, starting only nine league games for the Red Dragons. Mullin has netted 110 times in 172 Wrexham appearances, an enviable goalscoring record that has attracted the Latics.

Very local to his home city of Liverpool, Wigan will be looking to climb up the table under Ryan Lowe in 2025-26, with the current Latics boss being a goalscoring striker back in his playing days, just like Mullin has proven to be.

Overall, Wigan steadied the ship throughout an unsure year in League One, which saw Shaun Maloney dismissed in March and Ryan Lowe appointed in his place.

Lowe had been out of work since August after departing from Preston North End after one solitary game at the beginning of the season – a 2-0 home defeat to Sheffield United.

Ultimately, after finishing 15th in the third-tier, one thing was made clear at the end of the campaign – Wigan desperately need goals.

The Latics’ goalscoring record throughout the season was poor to say the least. In fact, they scored the fewest goals in the entirety of the division, netting just 40 times across the 46 league games.

As a result, Mullin could inject some firepower into an attack that has been sorely lacking. Just last season, the striker bagged 24 goals in 38 League Two appearances, highlighting his goalscoring prowess in the EFL, although he has not done it at League One level in his career, which could be a worry.
