Why we don’t believe sources over Christopher Nkunku’s PSG or Bayern moves

Chelsea still have crucial games to play this season, but before you know it June is going to be here, and we’ll be into the summer window.
As always at this stage, there’s a lot of work going into the preliminaries of any deals for players coming in, but even more work being done on those who are going out – who are they, how much do we want for them, and where they might go.

One name is very firmly on the list already – Christopher Nkunku’s role has diminished over the past few months from peripheral to anonymous, and there’s nobody even trying to hide the fact he will be going.
Football Insider’s piece on the move says that the striker is “fully expected” to move away, and there’s no denying that. Their sources say, however, that we’re “not in a hurry” to sell Nkunku to Arsenal, and that it’s more likely that he returns to his native France or to Bayern Munich.
We can’t say we agree with that. The only team in France likely to be able to afford his wages and transfer fee are PSG, and Nkunku really doesn’t fit their new, successful model which already has a wealth of attacking talent anyway.
Bayern are in the same boat – they have plenty of attacking options on the books already, and it’s hard to see a languid Frenchman who has basically been a flop for two years being an appealing signing.
To us, Arsenal look a better bet – they’ve got a strong recent history of buying our players, and have the money to take a punt of Nkunku, perhaps as a loan with an option to buy.
