Rodrigo Bentancur missed Tottenham’s second pre-season friendly against Wycombe Wanderers because of illness.
Bentancur was initially named in the Spurs starting XI for Saturday morning’s behind-closed-doors friendly against the League One side at Hotspur Way.
However, shortly before kick-off it was announced by the club via social media that the Uruguay international had been replaced in midfield by George Abbott.
With Tottenham in action later in the day against Luton Town, there had been suggestions that Bentancur would instead be involved at Kenilworth Road alongside the likes of summer signing Mohammed Kudus and Micky van de Ven.
Though it has since been revealed that Bentancur’s absence is due to illness.
Spurs head to Hong Kong next week for their pre-season summer tour of Asia and it remains to be seen if the midfielder will be fit enough to make the trip.
Tottenham will face Arsenal in the first north London derby to be played outside of the UK before travelling to South Korea, where they will play Newcastle on August 3.
Thomas Frank’s side will conclude their pre-season by travelling to Germany to take on Bayern Munich and Harry Kane in on August 7 before their campaign officially gets underway with the UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain at in Udine on August 13.
