Why Missing Out on Chelsea Newcomer Deals a Minor Blow to Luis Enrique’s Depth at PSG | OneFootball

This summer, Paris Saint-Germain was linked to Jadon Sancho, who would eventually leave Manchester United. One of the reasons the Parisians should’ve pushed for the now Chelsea player is the competition he’d bring to one player.

At one point in the summer transfer window, it seemed Sancho would be arriving in the French capital. PSG saw up and close that the Englishman does possess qualities to help a team in the UEFA Champions League after Borussia Dortmund eliminated the Ligue 1 side in the semifinal.

So when the rumors linked the 24-year-old to the capital club, it made sense. Moreover, CBS Sports’ Jonathan Johnson also saw a move for Sancho making sense as it would create competition for Ousmane Dembélé.

“The one for me that you could have made an argument for, if anyone, I think, was Jadon Sancho, not necessarily because I really rate Jadon Sancho, but because I do feel like if you were going to add anyone to that attack if you wanted to keep up that competition for a first-team place between Dembélé between [Désiré] Doué, you need to add somebody who’s a fixed presence on that right,” Johnson said on the latest episode of PSG Talking.

“So that means that Dembélé has to be able to make up his mind, right? ‘I’m going to be playing as a wide man, or I’m really going to go in on being a No. 10.’ Whereas at the moment, he’s still, in my opinion, he’s probably still got that luxury of flip-flopping between the two positions, which is probably going to be extremely frustrating for PSG fans over the course of the season.”

As the transfer deadline neared, the PSG rumors linking them to Sancho began quieting. Eventually, the Parisians were out of the race with Chelsea and Juventus keen on the player and him ultimately going to the Blues to continue his football career.
