The Premier League have just announced that Cole Palmer has won the Castrol “Game Changer of the Season” award for his hattrick against Manchester United.

Chelsea were3-2 down with 99 minutes and 17 seconds on the clock, before Palmer inspired them to the latest comeback to win in Premier League history.

After netting a penalty despite immense pressure following a VAR check, fans inside Stamford Bridge were still celebrating just equalising when a corner taken short came to Palmer on the edge of the box. His hopeful strike deflected in on Scott McTominay to make it 4-3 and send Stamford Bridge just about as mad as we’re ever seen it.

This is just the latest award Palmer’s been handed out. And while it’s a big of a fugazi one, it’s a nice chance to remember that game in particular. Despite a disappointing season, it will live long in the memory. He adds it to the long list of awards he’s won this year: the Premier League Young Player of the Year. Chelsea’s Players’ Player of the Year. Chelsea Players’ Young Player of the year. PFA Fans’ Player of the year, and the LFA Young Player of the Year. Did we miss any?

A disappointing legacy – but a great memory

At the time we all hoped it would be the moment which really sparked our season, but it wasn’t to be. Although it did come as part of a solid run of form which eventually carried us to 6th place, something which would have seemed pretty unthinkable when we were losing to United that late in the day.

What a tragedy that it wasn’t enough to convince all parties that Mauricio Pochettino wasn’t the right man to lead us forward, despite the moments like this along the way.
