We’re now just over a month away from the January transfer window opening, and from now we can expect rumours to really ramp up.

Chelsea don’t have a huge amount to do in the first team compared to windows gone by – we don’t expect anything more than minor tweaks. But in the wider squad there’s a lot to be done, and that’s especially true when it comes to young players and outgoing loans.

January often seen a bit of a reshuffle, with players on bad loans sent to new ones, and players who were expected to get more minutes at Chelsea allowed to leave once the manager’s preferences are known.

One person who certainly looks set for a 6 month spell somewhere is Deivid Washington. The former Santos player arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2023 but has barely played for the first team, instead featuring mainly for the Development Squad.

Tough calls over Washington future from Chelsea

After 18 months of youth football, it’s time for the youngster to try his hand in the men’s game, and according to Trivela, a move back to Brazil is possible for the €15m forward. However, there’s also a strong push to get him into a team near London, so that a whole new adaptation phase isn’t needed.

It’s hard to know what level to aim for – it’s easy to see him loaned to a Championship team and ending up on the bench in such a physical and competitive league, but League 1 is surely too low for a player who cost so much. There was reported interest from the Premier League on deadline day, so it’s not a totally hopeless case.

It will be a very interesting few weeks as those in charge try to work out the best possible destination for the talented striker’s career to progress.
