According to widespread reports, Arsenal are in the final stages of clinching the signature of free-scoring Sporting forward Viktor Gyokeres.

The former Coventry City striker has hit an incredible 97 goals in 102 appearances for the Portuguese champions, winning his second successive Primeira Liga title this season having moved to Lisbon prior to the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

His prolific form for Sporting has attracted attention from all over Europe, but it appears that Mikel Arteta's Gunners have won the race to sign the Swede, who is reportedly set to sign a five year deal with the Londoners this week before jetting out on their pre-season tour of Asia.

In terms of the fee Arsenal will pay for Gyokeres, current estimates suggest it will be upwards of £60m - the BBC reporting that the deal will be worth €73.5m euros (£63.5m).

With that figure in mind, it is clear to see that Gyokeres will become one of the most expensive signings made by a Premier League club this summer - but by no means the steepest.

At present, the £116.5m Liverpool splashed out on German international Florian Wirtz is by far the biggest transfer fee to change hands during the current window - although Gyokeres is likely to move into second place on the list of the Premier League clubs costliest new recruits.

Matheus Cunha's £62.5m move to Manchester United from Wolves is currently the second dearest transfer of the summer...but Gyokeres' move to north London looks set to trump it.
