After gaining promotion back to the big time, Albion would find stability under Tony Pulis after narrowly avoiding relegation with Pepe Mel, and while the football was far from attractive, the Baggies would be competitive and battle against Premier League heavyweights to maintain their place in the top-flight.

In 2015, the Baggies would record a 13th placed finish under Pulis despite being tipped to return to the Championship, toppling the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea as the Black Country outfit recorded 44 points.

The Welsh coach created a team full of resolve and guile to help compete against some of the best teams in the world, with the Albion faithful certainly hoping that at some stage the current West Brom team can get back into a similar position.

Here at Football League World, we take a look at the highest paid West Brom players at the club during the 2014/15 season, and what they are doing with their careers right now.

We have to stress all salary figures are estimates by Capology.

Darren Fletcher and Brown Ideye were West Brom’s highest paid players

According to Capology, Darren Fletcher and Brown Ideye were West Brom’s highest-paid players in the 2014/15 season, both receiving an estimated £52,000 per week.

Following a long battle with illness, Fletcher would depart Manchester United for The Hawthorns in February 2015, linking up with Tony Pulis and being made the club captain.

In search of regular gametime, Fletcher netted his first goal for the club in April of that season against Leicester and went on to be a shining figure in Albion’s midfield for the three seasons he was at the club.

A dominant and energetic presence in midfield, Fletcher would make 91 appearances for the Baggies, before making a shock move to fellow Midlands outfit Stoke City.

Meanwhile, Nigerian frontman Ideye was recruited in 2014 from Dynamo Kyiv and would go on to play just one season in B71.

Failing to be as prolific in front of goal as Albion wanted, the forward netted just four times and produced two assists in 24 Premier League games, with an unsuccessful stint leading him to depart to Greek giants Olympiacos.

As per estimates from Capology, both Fletcher and Ideye would take up large chunks of the annual £682,500 Albion paid their playing squad, while the duo would receive over £2.7 million each year from their contracts.

Interestingly, in today’s market due to inflation, that would equate to the players being paid just short of £3.5 million a year.

Fletcher’s contributions to the club definitely warranted the vast amount of money paid for his services, but Ideye was the opposite, with his lack of goalscoring form and hefty wages likely forcing the Baggies to part ways with the now 36-year-old so soon.

Darren Fletcher called time on his playing career after departing Stoke City in 2019, with the Scotsman beginning to take his coaching badges.

Fletcher would return to Manchester United in 2020 to coach their U16 team before being promoted to first team coach the following year.

In March 2021, Fletcher became technical director at Old Trafford before being replaced in April 2024.

Heading into 2025, the now 41-year-old is part of Ruben Amorim’s staff as technical coach of the men’s team.

For Brown Ideye, he featured for seven different clubs after departing the West Midlands, undergoing spells in Greece, China, Spain, Turkey and Kuwait.

The frontman is still playing competitive football in 2025, returning to his native home of Nigeria, with Enyimba.
